ISO Extractions at a glance...
What is ISO?
ISO is short for "Isopropyl Alchohol" which is sold world wide at grocery and drug stores, as well as Walmart and many other places. Isopropyl comes in vaired strenths between 50% and 99%. When performing ISO extractions you want to use 99%(prefered) or 91%.
How do you use ISO to extract?
ISO extractions are done by soaking buds/trim/kief with Isopropyl alcohol for a short time and straining/filtering the ISO through a coffee filter and letting the ISO evaporate on a glass plate. What is left is a sticky coating of oil over the plate that is ready to be warmed up and scrapped off.
Secret Behind Qwiso
Qwiso simply means "Quick Wash ISO". This is where the line is drawn between good ISO and bad ISO. The longer the ISO is in contact with the bud, the more unwanted matter it will extract from the bud. Chlorophyll, solids, fats, lips, and other unmentionables are things that will be extracted into your oil if you let the bud come in contact with the ISO for to long.
Freeze your materials!
In the ISO world we cannot stress enough how crucial freezing your materials and ISO for at least 24 hours in the freezer is before you do your washes. The cold temperatures solidifies fats, waxes, lips, and chlorophyll that will otherwise leech into your final product and make for a harsh smoke and an unsatisfying color.
Green ISO Is NO Good
Your ISO solution should never look green. Ideally it should not look like anything, it should be just about as clear as it was when you bought it. The green color means that chlorophyll and other unwanted got into our final product. You want to use Short wash times and frozen materials i cannot stress that enough!
Low Heat Evaporation
Using an heating pad or electric griddle you can use low heat to fully purge your product of all ISO. Placing your dish on a heating mat or electric griddle and using low temperature will ensure a full purge and clean end product. We do not recommend using temperatures of over 120*F for this step.
